Process costs

Medical processes are characterised by their high complexity and variability. The reasons for this include: patient individuality, the treating staff, the devices and systems employed as well as the differing treatment strategies. Even the results of supposed identical processes are subject to great variations. A proper cost allocation, e.g. within the context of medical controlling, is hereby severely limited.

In order to make economic improvements in clinical service provision, it is necessary to view the time that patients stay in the hospital from a highly process-oriented perspective. All cost relevant processes revolving around the patient are therefore to be understood as process chains. In addition to these process chains, the cost drivers must also be identified and minimised.

With the aid of the innovative scientific methodology of SWAN - Scientific Workflow Analysis GmbH (s.w.an), highly diverse processes can be acquired in detail and analysed. During this process, costs can be appropriately allocated to the individual process steps, for example, within the context of medical controlling. Thereby it is not only feasible to directly recognize any possible deficits or surpluses of a treatment process in comparison to its associated DRG lump-sum (diagnosis-related groups), but also its cause. Consequently, these results represent a reliable decision-making basis for sustainable optimisation of clinical processes (e.g. centralisation or decentralisation of clinical therapies).

Our procedure:

Our trained personnel collects process data "live" on-site aided by our software (s.w.an Suite), which was specifically developed for medical purposes. To accomplish this, randomly chosen individual patients will be accompanied and the patient-specific workflows are documented. On the basis of this documentation, process cost models are created and subsequently subjected to a process evaluation in co-operation with the customer. During this step, the costs are compared to the revenue of a special clinical service.

As a result of our services, you receive an assessment of your processes itemised according to their contributions to the company profits. Moreover, you receive a catalog of measures compiled for the continuous enhancement and improvement of your processes.
